A visit from the past

While I have been at my current location (work that is), I have seen a few people from my past. That's a good thing.

One was Phil Turner, an incredible banjo and guitar player that I had a chance to jam with and listen to when he would play at Fat Cat's Deli and Pub. This was back in the mid-late 80's when I lived on top of the place. I have several live recordings of Phil from that time. He gave me a disc of his latest release (yup he has a few albums out) and I was blown away to hear a couple of songs I recognized from back in our "running around" days. It was quite cool to hear the final, finished effort from his earlier days. It made me want to buy a new drum kit and give him a call, just to see if I could still keep a beat.

BTW, we do have rock band here...and I am the drummer...I kinda get carried away at times.

When I lived on top of the bar, I shared it with one of my best buds, Bruns, and his wife, Janet.

Well...today at the store, I ran into Bruns' mother. She will always be Mrs. Warner to me, regardless of how old I get. The memories of many days spent in their house in highlands quickly cascaded upon me as we chatted. Bruns and I ran with each other a lot...I mean a lot! His parents (now divorced) were the coolest folks I had met, aside from my own mom (of course).

She informed me of her task of getting another Master's Degree ( she has at least 2 currently). This one is in religion as she is seeking to enter the ministry of some type. A former lawyer and political activist, she was a wise sage to us "kids" as we progressed from high school to college and beyond as we began our own families. She still has the soft voice but with a tone that keeps your attention, regardless of what she is talking about...must be the lawyer in her, heh heh heh.

She told me that I needed to give Bruns a call, which I will do. I last saw him when we nabbed him and dragged him up to Indianapolis to see Roger Waters...oh yeah...he put up a real fight...pfffft!

As we parted, she also said that Bruns and I need to start running together again...that it would be good for both of us. Indeed, friends are always good to have, and I would like to do that.

It would be good for both of us.
