Or...
Happy Day Off.
To some, that's all it is.
After 2.5 years at the same store and on my 3rd Anniversary of my recent employer, I am changing stores. This change is pretty good as my new store is closer to the man cave. I also have experience in that store as it was the one where I did most of my training.
I'll miss my old crew. They taught me a lot about the business and the one word that paints the broad stroke in describing them is Pride. That store has a bad, yet undeserved, reputation and the employees there work very hard to overcome that rep.
I welcome the challenge of a larger store and new customers. Perhaps this will be the next step into a position that is closer to my expertise.
What decorations I had planned are now up. The tree is on display, with some help from Emma. My new (gifted) furniture is cleaned, polished, and adorned with holiday stuff. Casino chips are tastefully hanging on three walls. On occasion, one can hear Christmas tunes filling the air.
Just need to vacuum the garland schrapnel and I'm ready for Santa.
Oh...I forgot...it seems I wasn't such a good kid this year. *sigh*
No worries Santa, just drop by for some 'Nog and nummies.
Here are a couple of recent pieces from the LV Journal, click on them to see the entire article.
Harrah's chief says "arms race" to build new casinos is over:
A billion bucks really is a lot of money after all.
And the days of casino companies chasing after one another to build more and more expensive new resorts are probably over for a long time, a top gaming executive said Wednesday at the Global Gaming Expo.
Downturn affecting all kinds of gamblers:
Sneaker-clad tourists aren't the only ones to stop making tracks to Las Vegas casinos. Wall Street-types in wingtips have also tired of losing money on the Strip.
That leaves gambling operators to fend for themselves and turns talk of the next gleaming tower into chatter about who may be the first to turn off the lights.
At least that's what three Wall Street analysts had to say Wednesday during the Global Gaming Expo, the gambling industry's biggest trade show and conference.
The table, chairs, and curio should arrive on Sunday, providing the weather holds up. I'm really looking forward to this. The finish, I'm told, is a dark walnut. That works for me since the chip cabinet will also be dark...cherry yes...but dark.
Having my first fire in my fireplace tonight. Man, I enjoy that.
Will came by and we buzzed up to Target for some things, George (and Barb) called and invited us to Impellizeri's for some 'sticks and pizza. Of course we were up for that.
Right now, I have my fire going, 'Bama football getting ready to start, going to fix a pot of chili (maybe). It's cozy in here and I feel (feek, for those who know) pretty good.
Could it get any better than this?
Certainly.
But this isn't too bad.
Emma has her favorite chips hanging, the 100's have their spot above the fireplace. Just one more display to complete and I think I'm done.
My Derby chips, mmmmmmmmmmm
I picked a cabinet style display for this so I can add more chips, if any more are released. It holds 99 chips so I have a little room for expansion. I have 89 Derby chips and as far as I can tell, I have one of each that has been made including the Bronco Billy's Colorado $5, both Hard Rock NCV's, the MGM and NY NY NCV's, and even a cruise line's Triple Crown chip. I didn't bother with the other race related chips (Preakness, Belmont) or jockey chips...only Derby because in my opinion, it's the only race that matters!
The cabinet should arrive today and hopefully, I won't be playing "post it note" tag with the UPS driver like the last delivery.
I went with a cherry finish instead of black like the others. With all the chips in place, it should look quite nice.
Let's see...Eddie, Hef, "Elvira"...an odd group for sure. I will properly introduce them.
An Eddie's Fabulous 50's $100 chip.
A 6 chip set from the "Hernando" digsite of Playboy AC chips. A $2.50, $5, (2) $25's and (2) 100's.
A $5 Four Queens Halloween chip. This completes the set of them. See my website, Jeff's Casino Chips, and visit the Chipping Basics Page to see the set.
Sixty three $100 chips (or better) now rest on the wall above my fireplace. I'm in the hunt for one more display for my Derby chips. A frame is pretty expensive for that many chips, but I have seen a cool looking cabinet that just may work. A little more research is in order.
